Driven by the unstoppable desire for freedom, Stefan risks his life to escape the evil regime of Nicolae Ceausescu, Romania’s dreaded dictator. While Stefan makes his way to America, his wife Mara and their two young boys must stay behind until they are allowed by the Communist government to join him in the United States.

The difficulties are just beginning as Mara is interrogated by the Securitate, she is demoted at work and forced to do manual labor and her children are giving their love and affection to her father whom she cannot forgive for ruining her dreams of becoming a world class violinist.
The one hope during these dire circumstances seems to be Mara’s uncle, Peter, who uses his influence to set up violin lessons with Emil Enescu, the country’s most respected and adored world class violinist. As conditions in Romania continue to deteriorate, Mara’s hopes of reuniting with her husband in America keep fading as new obstacles arise and old temptations are set before her.
As the country is approaching the bloodiest anti-communist revolution of the last fifty years, Mara is delivered in her darkest hour as betrayals are exposed, old transgressions are forgiven and hope of a better future is restored
